The Department of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology proudly offers the following degree programs:
1. Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology — 4 years
Program description: Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology and program offered by the department of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology at Jashore University of Science and Technology is of 48 months (four years) in duration and consists of eight terms. This program is consisting of coursework, lab/sessional/field works, class test/assignment, attendance, viva and research work. The program is specially designed to produce competent professionals who are able to think critically and lead in biotechnology development. They are competent to meet the future challenges of sustainable agriculture, healthcare, marine and environmental issues of the country and the globe as a whole. A student enrolled in the B.Sc. (Hon’s) program will have to earn minimum 160 credits out of 186 credits offered in eight semesters from three sections (Subjective, General Education (GED), and Capstone/Thesis) of core courses to get the degree. If students wish to learn more, they can take any optional courses offered in each semester which will add surplus credits to the minimum required credits. For promotion of one year to next year a student requires to earn a minimum of 20 credits from core courses in each academic year.
2.1. Master of Science (M.S.) in Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (Mixed Mode) — 1.5 years
Program description: Master of Science in Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (Mixed Mode) program offered by the department of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology at Jashore University of Science and Technology is of 18 months in duration and consists of three semesters. This mixed mode program is consisting of both coursework and research work. The program is specially designed to produce competent professionals who are able to think critically and lead in biotechnology development. They are competent to meet the future challenges of sustainable agriculture, healthcare, marine and environmental issues of the country and the globe as a whole. A student enrolled in the M.S. program (mixed mode) will have to earn minimum 50 credits out of 73 credits offered in three semesters from core courses and project/thesis to get the degree. If students wish to learn more, they can take any optional courses offered in each semester which will add surplus credits to the minimum required credits.
2.2. Master of Science (M.S.) in Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (Coursework-based) — 1 year
Program description: The Master of Science in Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (Coursework) program offered by the Department of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology at Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST) is a 12-month academic program structured over two (02) semesters. This program is meticulously crafted to prepare skilled professionals equipped to contribute to biotechnology-driven industries and institutions. A student enrolled in the Coursework-based M.S. program will have to earn minimum 40 credits out of 60 credits offered in two semesters from core courses to get the degree. If students wish to learn more, they can take any optional courses offered in each semester which will add surplus credits to the minimum required credits.
2.3. Master of Science (M.S.) in Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (Research-based) — 2 years
Program description: The Master of Science in Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (Research-based) program offered by the Department of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology at Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST) is a 24-month graduate program structured across four (04) academic semesters. This program is thoughtfully designed to cultivate skilled researchers and future academicians, empowering them to engage in advanced inquiry within a specialized area of study. It emphasizes independent research, enabling students to design, execute, and critically evaluate scientific investigations with academic rigor and integrity. A student enrolled in the M.S. program (Research-based) will have to earn 60 credits out of 60 credits offered in four semesters from thesis to get the degree.
3. Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology — 3 years
These programs are designed to equip students with cutting-edge knowledge and practical expertise in molecular biology, biotechnology, and translational research.
